Coimbatore : Around 50 beneficiaries received Welfare schemes worth Rs. 7.1 lakhs on the 'Manu Neethi Naal Mugam' presided by the District Collector at Anamalai circle, here on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, District Collector, K. Rajamani said, "Tamil Nadu Government has come up with many beneficial schemes for the people. To ensure uniform and timely distribution of the schemes, the officials meet the ear-marked beneficiaries in person, especially in rural and remote villages and update them on the welfare schemes they can avail. And, the Manuneethi Mugam largely helps in bridging the gap between the officials and people."
The Collector noted that schemes like old age funds of Rs.1500, assistance for widows, destitutes, spinsters, differently abled were issued to 72,649 people every month in Coimbatore. Under the Prime Minister's Kishan scheme 4,350 farmers are benefitted with Rs.6,000 which will be distributed in three installments in a year.
"172 tribals are issued with land rights, under Muthulaskmi maternity scheme and so far, Rs.20.54 crores has been issued to 26,143 beneficiaries", informed the Collector.
"In 2018, the social welfare department has issued 8 grams of gold each and funds worth Rs. 12.85 crores to 300 people. And, land patta was issued to 167 people in Anamalai in 2018", the Collector said.
He also mentioned on the distribution of issuing of free bicycles to students. And the welfare schemes by the animal husbandry department including 70 hydrophobic unit, poultry for 2,400 and cattle for 4,151 beneficiaries.
"Education fund, farming loan, small business loan were all provided to eligible people in both municipality and corporation limits. Pradhan Mantri Award Yogana, the 100 days employment scheme, basic income assurance scheme were all executed with fullest supervision of the concerned officials to the deserving beneficiaries", he said.
The Collector also apprised that grievance petitions were collected from people in Anamalai, 15 days ahead of the Manuneethi Mugam. The petitions were later handed over to concerned department heads for redressal.
He also reiterated that under the order of the government to provide drinking water to all, efficient steps were taken to fulfill the water requirements in the city. He advised the people to be cautious of dengue and malaria, owing to monsoons.
The Manu Neethi Naal Mugam saw benefits worth 2,88,000 by Social Welfare Department, 68,702 by Revenue Department, 2,05,899 by Agriculture department, 1,60,000 by Horticulture department and 7,71,171 by Minorities welfare department.
Revenue Officer Ravi Kumar, PRO Nallathambi, Distribution Officer Kumaresan, Social Welfare Special Officer Amuthan, Aanamalai Thasildhar Venkatachalam participated along with several other officials.
